At vom Heuerhaus we are serious hunters! We strive for a Drahthaar breeding program that produces skilled and passionate hunters that are easy to train, and great family dogs. Hands down Drahthaars are the best hunters in the world! We are a VDD registered kennel since 2006, and are staunch supporters of the VDD breed regulations and JGHV testing system! I've been a member of VDD-GNA for over 20 years, and a JGHV performance judge since 2003.
The Heuerhaus breeding philosophy is to produce hard hunting Drahthaars that are calm, affectionate and enjoyable to have in the house. In my mind a dog must not only be an excellent hunter and easy to train, but must also be a great family dog. Vom Heuerhaus Drahthaars are for the serious versatile hunter who's also looking for that year round companion.
In 2015, three F-litter vom Heuerhaus Drahthaars ran in VDD-GNA's International Armbruster Zuchtprufung. Fall, Frosta and Fahrenheit finished 1st, 4th and 10th out of 45 dogs, which is an accomplishment we are very proud of!
It's not just our f-litter that we're known for, rather, Heuerhaus puppies are known for their great natural ability and easy trainability. We produce Drahthaars with very nice coats and great temperaments, that are strong trackers with passionate searches and excellent pointing ability. Our Drahthaars have high water desire and very functional, flat laying coats with nice beards.
We spend most of our time hunting Sharptail Grouse and Pheasants in Nebraska and Wyoming, and waterfowl around our home. On average I spend about 50 days a year hunting. I train and test my own dogs, and have successfully passed all seven of my Drahthaars through the VJP, HZP and VGP! I do periodic training and testing for others as time allows. Hunting, training, testing and breeding Deutsch-Drahthaars has been a love and passion of mine for over 20 years. I believe at vom Heuerhaus we make very sound and wise breeding decisions, and produce high quality Deutsch-Drahthaars!
